GUARDIAN HOME OPPORTUNITIES

What is a Guardian Home?

We do not believe that puppies or dogs are meant to spend their lives in a kennel. Doodles are social animals that adore their families and want to be with them, participating as a loved family member. By placing them in a loving home environment that will be their forever home from the time they are puppies, we are ensuring their happiness and best start in life. This gives Country Trail Pups the ability to maintain the highest quality care for our doodles by placing them in qualified homes.

Our Guardian Home Program allows for our chosen families to have our “pick of breeding dog” and become part of the process with us. It creates a great bond between us and our Guardians.  Once the breeding dog has had her allotted litters, she/he is then spayed/neutered and soul property of the Guardian Family.

Guardian Families are going to be an important part of our program. We will all get to know each other and become a unit as this journey begins.  It’s pretty amazing to be a part of bringing in top quality, healthy pups that will make so many families happy.

The Guardian Home puppy is part of the Guardian Home’s Family forever, while the breeding rights are retained by Country Trail Pups for a set amount of time (each situation is slightly different so we prefer to work out specific details with each family on an individual basis.)

Once the Guardian Dog has completed his/her breeding career, he/she will be spayed/neutered at Country Trail Pups expense, and the dog will remain a forever pet of their Guardian Family!

From the beginning the dog is a member of the family.  We encourage bonding activities, such as taking obedience or other dog classes with you breeding dog.  Like any well-loved pet, they need good exercise and lots of play.  Some families can join therapy dog programs and visit hospitals, hospice, schools, and even libraries with their breeder dog.

Guardian Families are responsible for feeding our breeding dogs, Fromm or NutriSource food which is a must.  We are feeding the most nutrient based dog food.  You are also responsible for training the guardian dog.  This means that you are teaching commands, enrolling in at least one training program that teaches basic commands and manners.  You are responsible for vaccinations, monthly heart-worm and tick prevention, yearly exams done by a veterinarian, proper fencing of your yard, or walked on a leash at all times.

You as the guardian are also responsible for keeping a breeding dog away from any dog that is not neutered or spayed.  This is crucial and will break the contract in its entirety. Our Guardian Family will not have our dogs outside for an extended period of time and they will be strictly indoor pets.  You are responsible for the best interests of your Guardian dog.

When the Guardian girl is in season, the Guardian Family is required to contact us immediately. An intact female usually has a heat cycle that will last between 14 and 21 days. During this time, we will need access to her for breeding related appointments. Once she has been bred, she will remain with her Guardian Family until one week before her due date. At that time, the Guardian dog will come back to stay with us throughout her pregnancy. She will be returned once her pups are fully weaned approximately 5-6 weeks later. Guardian Families are welcomed and encouraged to visit with scheduled appointments while their Guardian Dog is here at Country Trail Pups.

The female stays with us for 10-14 days during her heat cycle, to be bred. Then, she returns to whelp (deliver) the puppies a week before they are due, staying with us until the puppies are weaned (about 6-7 weeks total). We work with our Guardian Homes using a simple contract and we provide support and guidance all along the way, staying in contact through the year. At the end of the Guardian Home Family contract, the female dog belongs 100% to the Guardian Family.

Most importantly, we here at Country Trail Pups love our program and we are hoping for many successes.  Our Guardian Families will be chosen carefully through an application. In the event of the program not working for the Guardian Families, the breeding dog must be returned to Country Trail Pups and the contract will be voided.  Under no circumstance will any dog of Country Trail Pups be re-homed, this will result in a law suit.
